Soon after that, Rachel was befriended by a praying Christian neighbor. She was amazed at Mrs. Harrison’s kindness, and forgiving attitude towards her prank-playing son. One night Rachel got up, knelt beside her bed, and lifted her hands. “God, help me! Help me! ” she cried. God was helping her, she realized later. ” He says , ‘I’m with you in the pit.’ And that’s where I was – in the pit. Was there any deeper to go?. A few weeks later Rachel moved to Penticton, B,C. With her common-law husband George who was battling Rheumatoid arthritis in his 30’s. She hoped to make a new start. Once or twice they discussed marriage; but, no rush. Once in Penticton, Rachel worked as a maid in a motel; her three oldest children had grown up, with lives of their own. Then George got really sick. Diagnosis: terminal cancer. He was so young, Rachel was devastated. Alone in the motel that day, she pushed the vacuum cleaner back and forth methodically. Life seemed so hopeless. |
” I don’t want any part of this : ” she cried, emotions surging, ” I feel like leaving.”
Ruth from the office noticed Rachel’s State. After listening sympathetically she said gently. ” I don’t want any part of this : ” she cried, emotions surging, ” I feel like leaving.”
“Rachel, do you know that Jesus loves you?”
“Who?”
She daubed her eyes with a tissue
“Jesus. Jesus Christ, the Son of God. He loves you.”
